Today, MPP Dave Smith launched the "Spread the Warmth" Clothing Drive!

Peterborough-Kawartha – MPP Dave Smith is launching the “Spread the Warmth” clothing drive. As winter approaches, we are looking for people to knit, buy and donate socks, underwear, mitts, scarves and toques. All donations will go to the Youth Emergency Shelter (YES), Brock Mission and Cameron House. The goal is to ensure that all those reliant on the shelter system enough socks, mitts, underwear, scarves and toques for the winter season to ensure they stay warm.

“One of the things we don’t usually think about when donating to shelters are little things; socks, underwear and the like. We tend to focus on coats, jackets and food, but not on these things,” MPP Dave Smith said. “This year, let’s work together and guarantee no one in our community gets frostbite and that they have enough decent, clean clothing to make it through the winter,” MPP Smith added.

“What a great initiative! The shelter is always in need of socks, underwear, mitts, scarves and toques this time of year. Many thanks to our MPP Dave Smith and his Staff for spearheading this initiative and a big thank you in advance to all our community members who will so generously donate,” Nicole Lacey, Program Supervisor, Brock Mission-Cameron House.

Donations can be made at the Giant Tiger on Wednesday, November 25th from 12:00PM to 6PM. MPP Dave Smith will be on location collecting donations. Giant Tiger will have discounted socks and underwear for sale.

Donations can also be made at the Giant Tiger on Saturday, December 5th from 10AM to 2PM. MPP Smith will be on location.

People interested in donating can also drop off socks, underwear, scarves, toques and mitts at MPP Dave Smith’s Office anytime between now and the 5th of December. Please call ahead to inform the office so that physical distancing can be adhered to.
