PETERBOROUGH COUNTY – The Ontario government is investing in local infrastructure projects to assist in COVID-19 recovery. Through the COVID Stream, Ontario continues to support municipalities as they build and repair roads, bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure.

“Time and time again, we have provided our local municipalities with the support they need to invest in critical infrastructure projects,” said MPP Dave Smith. “This funding will address needs such as retrofitting buildings, Covid-19 protections and environmental infrastructure. Investing in local projects remains our top priority,” MPP Smith added.

“On behalf of Douro-Dummer and the County of Peterborough I’m appreciative of this additional funding that goes a long way to help with those little things that have been adding up to become big things.  You have listened and we are very appreciative," Warden of Peterborough County J. Murray Jones said.

“The financial assistance from the Provincial Government has been crucial for municipalities.  These funds have enabled North Kawartha to manage and adapt to the challenges of COVID-19 as well as provide relief and assistance to our residents.  We are very grateful for all the support from MPP Smith,” said Mayor Carolyn Amyotte.

“We are grateful to the Province for this investment in the City of Peterborough as we look towards recovering from the impacts of Covid-19,” said Mayor Diane Therrien. “The financial pressures created by Covid-19 make 2020 an especially difficult budget year. This funding will help make sure work continues on critical infrastructure projects in Peterborough.”

“Selwyn Township applauds this investment in our community’s infrastructure, thanks MPP Smith for making the announcement, and appreciates the co-operation of the Federal and Provincial governments that have made it possible,” said Mayor Andy Mitchell.

Total investment in communities across the Peterborough County are as follows:

Municipality and/or Regional Government

Peterborough County

City of Peterborough

North Kawartha

Trent Lakes

This funding is a part of Ontario’s approximately $250 million dollar commitment to municipalities to assist with local infrastructure projects.

“This investment provides the predictable and stable infrastructure funding municipalities have asked for in the wake of COVID-19,” said Laurie Scott, Minister of Infrastructure. “With this COVID Stream funding we are working directly with our municipal partners to deliver community infrastructure.”

In accordance with Federal government guidelines, all applications must be submitted no later than March 31, 2021. Projects must be completed by December 31, 2021. However, remote communities of 5,000 people have until December 31, 2022.
